So much has changed on both the work and personal life fronts since we wrote and shared our blog post entitled “Why You Want To Take Steps Now To Ensure 2020 Success.”  Without a doubt, the COVID pandemic which occurred shortly after we published the aforementioned post, changed where, when, and how individuals work.  It also caused those in the work force to reflect more on work-life balance and steps that could be taken to minimize negative impacts of their job or life outside of work.

The above said, at Bercume Associates, we believe when it comes to working – whether it be for yourself or an employer – somethings never change, and that there will always be a need and desire for leaders, managers, employees, and business owners to grow professionally. That means, individuals will all always be looking to acquire new skills, including ones that allow them to adapt to or capitalize on change.

Post-Pandemic Professional Development/Career Development

Given that a new month (March 2023 at the time of this post) has just gotten underway, and the first quarter of 2023 will soon be in the rearview mirror, there’s no time to waste when it comes to putting appropriate leadership and talent development in place! As we explained in the blog post shared above, it’s our experience as an executive coach, that the further one gets into a new year, the less likely it is that action will be taken to implement customized, effective, and much-needed coaching. While we offer virtual coaching/remote coaching and can work with individuals and organizations throughout the U.S., we’ve also found — at least here in New England — that once warm weather hits, individuals want to be out and about and are distracted by business travel, vacation and other social plans.  So, now is the time to arrange for and schedule spring and early summer talent and leadership development activities.

Our team of executive coaches and facilitators can coach or train you and your team on an extensive list of professional development topics, but post-pandemic, we’ve found the following training/coaching to be both the most-frequently-requested and critical to business and career success:

  • Leadership – Manager and Senior Leadership
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Communication

One-On-One vs. Group Coaching

We can help you decide whether you, your direct reports, various staff, or leaders at your organization would benefit most from one-on-one (individualized) coaching or from group coaching/group training. While far from an exhaustive list, some key benefits of each type of training/coaching include the following.

Benefits of One-on-One Coaching

  • Those being coached are able, and may be more willing to, share concerns, frustrations, and perceived weaknesses in skills/areas for improvement, etc.
  • Coaching can be customized by what a coach learns from the individual about his specific work-related/business-related challenges and opportunities.
  • Schedule coordination is limited to just the coach and the individual being coached.

Benefits of Group Coaching:

  • Numerous individuals can receive coaching at the same time – speeding up the coaching process. The aforementioned is particularly valuable if an employer is rolling out a change in policy, procedure, culture, etc. at the organization and needs to ensure all leadership and employees are aware of the change and effectively trained on any skills or behaviors required related to it.
  • Coaching/training attendees learn from questions and comments shared by fellow attendees, and may also feel more comfortable discussing workplace concerns if other attendees are voicing the same concern.
